Yesterday morning the family and I all got up early and drove to Stillwater for the LumberJack Days 5K race. It was the first official race of the Gear West running team. It was a cool morning and a great course. I set a new PR and ran the 5K in 15:40. It was a U.S. Track and Field event so even with my PR I was 20th place. There were some FAST guys there! MArybeth didn’t get any pictures of me or the Gear West team since we came through earlier than she thought. Here are some pics she got while we were there:

Last Sunday I was mountain biking at Elk River with Evan and Kuan and I had a mishap. I jack knifed my front wheel and the next thing I remember I was pulling dirt out of my helmet. Service note: ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET. It did not seem to bad at the moment but I have had a lot of neck and back pain( It has made it difficult to sleep). I went to the doctor and was told to come back in a week if not better for an MRI.

Well, my accident has not slowed me down enough since I was able to PR and run a course record at the Rice Lake classic. I ran 6K in 20:14. Marybeth said I am crazy and no more mountain biking…we will see!

4th of July

Sunday was a great day. That morning I ran the Delano 5k and ran a PR in 16:33. The Orono track club also made their debut and had great results. After the race we watched the parade with the kids. The kids loved the parade and the people in the parade loved giving them candy. We came home and I did more tree clean up (We cut down 2 huge trees last we; don’t worry we planted 10 conifers to replace them). We then went and had dinner with my family. My brother Jason was in town and it was nice to see him. We finished the night by biking to fire works and seeing the Minnesota Orchestra play (Grant loved the music). After fireworks Marybeth and I biked back with the kids in tow with only the light of fireflies…it was a memorable birthday.

While the weather did not even get that bad here it still did some damage. Marybeth and the kids were on the couch and the tree almost came through the window onto them. The pictures do not do justice…to the mess.

Now, who has a chainsaw I can borrow?

Happy 1st Birthday Samantha

Today Samantha is one and she is sick:( She was up all night with a fever .She went to the doctor this morning and they are not sure what she has. Poor thing, all she has wants is to be held. We had a very fun day planned and it has turned into a not so fun day. I hope she feels better soon!

She still looked cute in her cupcake birthday dress despite not feeling well.

Training again

Well it is that time of year again when the more structured training starts (a little delayed due to the move). I did the Gear West duathalon on May 23^rd and was 8^th overall. It was a fun race. CXC in training in Stillwater and I have the tri-loppet coming up. As much as I enjoyed the break it feels good to be training again.

It is also wedding, open house and summer fun time. Tomorrow is my father in- laws birthday; happy birthday Mike. Saturday my cousin is getting married and I am in the wedding party. Congrats Jeff and Nina! Congrats to all the 2010 grads and next week Samantha will be one! I am off to the twins game tonight, Go Twins!

Sorry for the lack of updates…life has been crazy. A year ago Marybeth and I thought about moving but we decided to wait until after the Olympics. In hind site that was a very good decision, moving is chaotic especially with two small children.

In the beginning of April we decided we wanted a big yard for our kids, a good school district and I wanted to live close to my work. That led us to the west metro. Well, in the west metro we did not have an abundance of choices in our price range but that was ok, via the criteria stated above. We fell in love with a house in Orono on .86 of an acre. However, the inspection flagged quite a few items that had to be fixed before we could move in.

This is the list we were given:

Support beam in garage be replaced

Replace rotting kitchen windows

New steel door

Lots of electrical work

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Guardrail in basement stairs

Screen on fireplace

Fix negative grade around house (which then lead to new gutters)

Sheetrock and fireproof basement ceiling

We also got our boiler tuned up, well cleaned and my Dad and I laid hardwood flooring.

Man I can feel my wallet getting lighter just typing this list.

Well, we did it! We got everything done and closed on time. Since the buyers had already bought another house and could not fix these items they gave us permission to have contractors come in and fix these items before closing. This makes for lawyers and lots of extra paperwork. At closing our realtor told us how nervous it made him…

We also have to give a shout out to Marybeth’s uncle. He owns Fries Electric and he did an amazing job with ALL the electrical that had to be done. Also, Joe Hansmann, our general contractor who got everything done on time and did a great job (even with his wife giving birth to their first child in the middle of everything). Thank you to our parents who helped A LOT!!!

We could not be happier. Grant loves it here. He lives outside. We have seen a snake, chipmunks and last night a snapping turtle laid eggs in our garden. Samantha is not too happy with the move but in time we hope she will love it too!

So I finally got my mug on a Wheaties box (thanks Heidi!). This was an awesome gift and I enjoyed playing some jokes on friends with it. Next weekend is going to be busy. 6^th Anniversary on Saturday and the Gear West Duathlon on Sunday.
