My name is Matthew Liebsch and I am an elite level cross country skier bidding for a spot on the 2010 US Olympic Ski Team. I am a member of the CXC Ski Team, the 10 state Central Region Olympic Development Team. I started skiing when I was 16. However, I was very active in many other sports since I was a young boy. As I continued to progress in skiing I grew more and more infatuated with the sport and began to realize I have a legitimate opportunity to complete in the Olympics.
I live with my family in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities and we enjoy a very active lifestyle including skiing, biking, running, camping, canoeing and hiking. My parents Ed and Jayne Liebsch, and my in-laws Mike and Sherri Fries, are highly supportive of my Olympic quest and I receive a lot of support and encouragement from many relatives, friends and the Midwest ski community.
When I am not training in the Twin Cities I travel to Hayward WI, Marquette MI, and the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid NY. Once November arrives and racing begins our team travels all over the country and world competing at various Nordic racing venues.
