My butt is sore…

matt | October 20, 2010

… from sitting on a concrete floor while picking the skis for the CXC team.  The Salomon race skis look really good and I am pumped to put my20 10/2011 skis on snow.  Thanks KJ and Omar for pre-screening over 600 pairs to make sure we get some fast boards for this winter!!!  FYI, Gear West has a limited quantity of race room skis for the discerning customer.

THEN and NOW

matt | October 12, 2010

On October 1st my aunt Margie’s father passed away. His name was Kenneth Boraas and he was 93 years old. Margie sent me this picture taken of him skiing in the 1930s.

While the equipment might have changed the love of the sport hasn’t.

Thanks for the picture Margie. Prayers and love sent from our family to yours.

The double

matt | October 10, 2010

I am back in the Twin Cities after a tough double header race weekend.  Friday I took on the Climb to the Castle (a 5 mile uphill rollerski race outside of Wilmington, NY) and Saturday morning I ran the Autumn Woods 10k road race in Maple Grove, MN.  In between I had a good amount of travel.  Both races went fairly well although I fell off pace a little in the 10k run but still held off Brian Gooley who gave me a run for my money.  In the rollerski race I skied most of the way with Brian Gregg, Andy Newell and someone with super fast rollerskis (you can tell from my expression what I was thinking.  Thank you nccsef.org for taking pictures).  The Climb to the Castle went well but I had some weird race sensations.  I keep going from not hurting very much too unbearable race pain and back to not hurting.  I was able to ski through the hard moments and skied fast when I was feeling good but it was different.  I think I trained a little too much the week prior after not having been to a training camp yet this year.  Check www.fasterskier.com for results of the rollerski race and www.skinnyski.com for pics and results of the Autumn Woods 10k.  Also, congrats to my cousin Jeff on a great 10k run!

According to Tad… this is what is know as “the hurt locker”
