Recovery

matt | March 29, 2010

This time of year there is very little to report on the training front. It is the time of year that allows for physical recovery, which is very important. I have been doing some light running and biking. Sunday I went for a 4 hour bike with my friend Eric. Other than that I have been taking Grant and Samantha to the park for a little bit of fresh air and exercise.

Thank you to the Wain family who gave us some great stuff for Grant. He LOVES the trike!!

On the home front

matt | March 24, 2010

With my team out in Maine skiing U.S. Distance Nationals I find myself at home in Minnesota. I stayed home to deal with the many issues I have on my plate. We are now currently looking for a new place to live. Our lease is up the end of May and we refuse to pay the new rent of “an arm and a leg.”  Today was the 50K freestyle and my team did awesome! Check out skiinyski.com and fasterskier.com for full results.

On a lighter note our family is enjoying the warmer weather. Every night we take the kids outside. It is important to me that they grow up with an active lifestyle. Grant now says “daddy.” It sounds more like “dee,” but I love it all the same. Samantha pulled herself up on Grant’s train table and has an ear infection.

Grant was mad the wagon ride stopped for a picture. Samantha is holding her favorite toy: Woody from the movie Toy Story.  He was later dropped on a walk and not found. (after lots of crying and retracing steps). If you live in Plymouth and find him on a park path let me know.

Pole, Pedal, Pant

matt | March 14, 2010

So yesterday was one of the toughest races I’ve done.  I raced and volunteered at the Pole, Pedal, Pant winter triathlon this weekend.  Friday I set-up the 7km bike and run course but the overnight temps stayed unfavorable and turned everything into a sheet of ice.  I came prepared with Dave Nelson’s beefy studded tires and Sven’s mountain bike but a last minute change had everyone racing on the 2.5km made-made ski loop for the ski, bike and run.

First, I want to thank Amy and Melinda and all the other volunteers and Three Rivers Parks for having such an awesome race.  That being said, the PPP was one of the toughest events I have competed.  It was hard work to bike and run on the sloppy man-made snow.  In hind sight I should have employed lower tire pressure for the bike leg but John would have stilled killed me… he has mad bike skills.

Results and pictures are on skinnyski.com.  Thanks Bruce for taking all the pics!

ski I have the skiing down=)

bike Out of 5km of biking, I was riding 20% of the time.

carry Lots of this and bike pushing.

run Running in deep snow is tough work.  Nice job all racers!
