Trains and swimming pools

Over the past fews weeks I’ve taken some fun local trips with my kids.  We went to the roundhouse in St. Paul and to the swimming pool.  Grant loves trains and both Grant and Samantha love the pool.

October skiing!

It snowed last night and this morning in the Twin Cities and we received
enough snow for me to venture out on an anonymous golf course in the
western suburbs. The skiing was great with a little silicon spray on the
entire length of a pair of rock crown skis. I just got back from an intense
camp at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY so I didn’t ski for
very long… just enough wet my whistle for the white stuff.

Whiteface Rollerski Race

check out http://www.teamtoday.org/Stories/tabid/391/ctl/Details/mid/763/ItemID/1390/Default.aspx for pics and results can be found at www.xcskilife.com

The race went well and I finished 4th out of the skiers using Marwe.  There was more than a few people who showed up and raced on very fast rollerskis.  Most of the XC folks decided to race on our slower training skis (closer speed and feel to real snow).  The event went very well but it was a very tough race.  5 miles uphill at an average of 8% grade… ouch!  The weather was not great (take a look at pics on TeamToday or Fasterskier.com).  The rain really slowed down the rolling speed of the skis and it made for a lot of V1 which did not play to my strength of V2-ing but I was very happy with my result and effort.  Hopefully its an early season for the white stuff.  Looks like it is going to get colder soon.
