Camp over, time to rehab

matt | September 28, 2008

Today most of the team did our long workout for the week and planned a 3+ hour run in Adirondack Park.  The route for the guy’s team along with Heather Zimmerman included running to Avalanche Lake and then the ascent of Mt Colden.  The first three hours of running/hiking went very well but on the descent I rolled my ankle pretty bad on a wet slippery rock.  The weather for the run was less than ideal with rain most of the time.  We were already a little behind schedule but with me slogging along at a crawl the total workout ended up being almost 4 and a half hours.  I cannot put very much pressure on the ankle but hopefully I will only be out of commission for a week or so.  The trainer said 1-3 weeks, high ankle sprain… bummer, I hope it heals quick.

Lake Placid Ski Jumps

matt | September 27, 2008

Garrot Kuzzy and I did an extra cool down after the Saturday morning workout and made our way over to check out the ski jumps.  Our Olympic Training Center credentials got us a free elevator ride up to the top of the big ski jump.  The view from the top was beautiful with many trees starting to change cool.  Next week is the Flaming Leaves Festival in Lake Placid…I think there many be an influx of people to check out the leaves… as long as the weather is nice… 5 day forecast is not looking good at the moment.

Lake Placid Area… OTC is middle left behind second field

Takeoff view…I wouldn’t do it.

Saranac Lake

matt | September 26, 2008

Today the CXC team did a distance classic ski outside of Saranac Lake.  The route was very scenic and my teammate Brian Gregg took a sweet picture of Andre Watt and myself.  The weather this week has been excellent but rainy weather is starting to move in.  Hopefully the weather stays nice because peak color is right around the corner and the team has some great run/hikes planned over the next week and a half.

Lake Placid and Grant in the tub

matt | September 25, 2008

I have now been in Lake Placid at the Olympic Training Center for a few days and getting back into ski camp routine.  Lots of training, lots of resting and lots of eating.  Tuesday we did uphill rollerski skate intervals and did a strength set in the afternoon.  Today was the same but we did classic uphills instead and added a pre breakfast isometric workout plus strength again in the afternoon… that’s right, 3 workouts in one day, makes me tired thinking about it.  As for morning isos, It’s always fun to get a good sweat going before breakfast to get the appetite revving.  Attached are pics of the ski jumps, the back of the team van and a pic of Grant before I left for LP.  He is starting to pull himself onto everything.  He will probably be walking before he is 8 months old… too bad he has not learned to sleep completely through the night yet.
